You can use parchment paper for grilling. However, you can’t just use it like that. I always tell my friends who are trying to copy my cooking method with parchment paper, the importance of the position. So, the first thing you need to know is the right position to put your parchment paper.

Put it away from fire. This is a paper, so it burns. It can make problems for you. Because parchment paper is not ideal for the grill and it can pass through up to 450 degrees.

If you use a gas grill, make sure you activate the specific burner and put the parchment paper away from that burner. You only need the heat. For a charcoal grill, I this grill with round shape, there is preparation you need to make.

First of all, burn the charcoal and make sure it generates the heat that you need. Do not use too much charcoal. Just use enough to produce the heat. Once it is burning, put the charcoal on one side of the grill.

Now, you can place the parchment paper on the other side that doesn’t have the charcoal. This way, the paper won’t get burned and it can cook the ingredients perfectly.

How to Use Parchment Paper on Grill?

You can use it similar to an oven. Put it as a cover for the baking pan. However, you also can try different methods. For example, if you want to bake potatoes, you can use the paper to wrap the ingredients. Make a cute little wrapping and put it away from fire.

Close the grill lid and wait for several minutes until your ingredient is fully cooked. Once it is done, the paper will turn brown, similar to when you use it in an oven. And voila, you got your potatoes baked perfectly.

In short, parchment paper can produce a similar effect as an oven. The grill itself has a design that similar to an oven, with its lid and several burners. But, if you use parchment paper to wrap the ingredients, the cooking process will be much faster, easier, and perfect. 

However, you also need to understand that parchment paper is only a paper. It will burn. Therefore, you can’t cook an ingredient that takes too much time to cook.

For example, if you want to grill a chunk of meat, rather than using parchment paper, it would be better, if you use aluminum foil for heat transfer purposes. Meat needs more time to cook. So, if you use parchment paper, once it is done, the paper will turn into black charcoal and it affects your meat taste.
